THE PRINCE

Written by Abigail Thorn and directed by Natasha Rickman, The Prince, is a weaving of Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part One with original text, exploring the roles we are each assigned to play in life and how our own desires for autonomy can trigger monumental changes. Thorn re-casts Harry Hotspur as a closeted trans woman, who is urged to reckon with her own identity when she crosses paths with Jen and Sam, two trans women trapped in the Shakespearean multi-verse. Stewardson (credited here as Rodent) created a sonic landscape of seismic rumbles and grinding gears, as the machinery of the play-world becomes pushed to its breaking point, countered by soaring sweeps of thinking harmony as characters wake up to the world around them. Stewardson also provided musical direction for the electric guitar compositions by Frances Bolley. The Prince is currently available to stream on Nebula.
